About Friendship Press

Friendship Press is the publishing arm of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. We publish books about spiritual formation, stories of God's grace, faith for a changing world, and works of advocacy and liberation. Our vision is Christian resources that create a better future for all.

Friendship Press, Inc. formally began its publishing efforts in 1935. For more than 60 years, Friendship Press published books, maps, films, games, and other resources that expressed its value commitments, which included support for the health and welfare of children, constructive race relations, church missions, vibrant culture, and peace among nations.

At the turn of the Millennium, changing landscapes in the publishing industry and religious publishing in particular led to the shutdown of Friendship Press. The press stopped producing books and entered a period of inactivity that would last almost 20 years.

In 2018, Friendship Press reactivated and resumed operations under the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC). Rooted in the values and commitments from its past and supported by the NCC, Friendship Press strives to honor its historic commitments today and in the future—concern for fairness, justice, and the well-being of all peoples.

We can’t wait to share our books and other resources with you—books from authors who care deeply and write beautifully. Our books empower spiritual formation, advance the cause of justice, tell great stories of God’s work in human lives, and call for renewed faith in a changing world. We are proud to publish in support of faith for a better future.
